In the modems offered by UPC, the Wi-Fi network is configured by default to the 2.4 GHz frequency band, which also operates the Bluetooth technology, wireless fixed phones, mice, keyboards, microwaves and, usually, at least several other networks in the area. The 5 GHz frequency band used by the 802.11n network is significantly less crowded than the 2.4 GHz band. The UPC modem can be operated at the same time in only one frequency band (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz). Thus, before completing the switch-over, check whether all Wi-Fi devices that you use are operated in the 5 GHz frequency band. If they do, you should start using this band – your network will be faster and its range will significantly increase. For this purpose:
- Log in to the configuration page with any internet browser (website address: 192.168.0.1).
- Enter admin in the User/Nazwa użytkownika field
- Enter admin in the Password/Hasło field
Go to the tab WIRELESS NETWORK/SIEĆ BEZPRZEWODOWA (1) and, next, select Radio (2) in the 5 GHz section. Change Enable/Włącz (3) to Enabled/Włączony. Confirm this change with the button Save/Zapisz (4).
The configuration data of a wireless connection will also change. It is provided on the sticker placed on the bottom of the modem: SSID is the name of a wireless network and the sequence of characters following the padlock symbol – its password (it is important to consider the size of characters). Enter this data into each device.
If this change results in no Wi-Fi service, restore the factory settings of the modem – press and hold the Reset button for about 30 seconds until all LEDs are flashing.
